final final

Bruce Forman
here we are final stretch block 5, swingin and a swingin.

Anna Mckendry
Hey gang! shes back and perky. I seem to notice we are only playing slow swing, not things I like, like COLD DUCK TIME!!! they played it without me. oh well. maybe I can convince them to play it again. that also played it with the pro’s. oh- here comes some more people to watch. I think there should be a rule that you cant come in unless you bring in food. oh- it’s okay, the lady has a tin of something in her hands. my mom is due back any minute with fruit I think--- I am not quite sure what she said she was bringing. notice up above there is not much type from bruce--- I think he is too tired to type more than that. I am leaving now seeing as people have arrived over my shoulders! quite annoying if I do say so myself. but anyway.
now alex has just told me that Cold Duck Time is about a family that always had cold duck every night for dinner. I sure think matts air guitar is better than his regular--- seeing as he plays drums! I am being mauled be people over my shoulders so I will be going. don’t worry--- matt who can type 10 words a minute I coming (don’t worry—he wont type much!!!). goodbye for now!

Grace McKendry
Hi! I’m all bright and perky! I’m not, really, but compared to some of the people here I am. Gabe was sleeping on the couch at around 3:20. That was around when I got here. then he got up to play the keyboard. I think he stayed up all night. I went home at 10:30 and slept in my nice comfortable bed. then I woke up. Anna had a shower. Then our friend came over and we made cookies. I will go now because matt has to go and is nagging me for the P.C. time. I will go now. This is Grace McKendry, Signing off.

matt hannas-3:50
this was the best time ever,I had the time of my life. I will see you next Monday.

alex schramm 4:00
matthew is bugging me as usual, but I had a great time anyway. I may come back in awhile for the big finale, but goodbye for now!!

Bruce Forman
Bad news folks, herbie didn’t make it. he’s peacefully sawing logs next to me, but he is the champ once again, my idol. oops only a snooze, doesn’t count, he knew the tune, how many? “154, and still counting.” the rotary blues band is cookin soon to give way to the hot club pacific, then a free-for all to the finish. I’m turning this over to the others, although was happy to see some old friends: Storm Nilson and Ryan Scott, a couple of the most talented guitarist I ever had the privilege to work with in this program. swing on catz !

Gordon Freedman 4:38
Chris Lopez on the Sax. Wow, it is lighting up the room playing with the Rotary Blues band. Keyboard and harmonica are making the afternoon glide along. Another two and half hours to go. It’s been stellar. Jazz.

Jacob Braccio- 4:41
according to Bruce Ryan Scott was here earlier but I was conveniently out of the room so needless to say I, like the rest of my Carmel High Jazz Workshop students still question his existence but I suppose it will all be cleared up on Thursday at the Palo Colorado but until then I remain in disbelief.

Anna Mckendry- 5:08
a great couple songs we played; great for soloing. it is a lot of fun. everyone is very punky though because I am all perky (remember me?) so it is kind of frustrating. I don’t think I have heard mike say “take it easy!” so many times. I really like the harmonica. I cant remember the name of the band playing right now. grace is afraid to go up and play on the piano, so I will have to make her (hehehe muahaha!). it’s not that easy being someone’s twin! that’s right, folks. but she seems more interested on finding out who took the air hockey puck than playing piano.

JR de Vera – 5:10
Down and dirty blues seem to have given the crowd a great second wind with less than 3 hours to go….Our young guitarists got to shred on some nasty blues. Very proud of all the students and my fellow seniors: Herb & Hank as we kept the bop going as the kids napped around 4 am. Enjoyed the duets with Pat. Outstanding soloists Noah, Chris and Bryce among others. They always have fresh artful ideas in their improves. Special kudos to son Gabe as he looks like he will bop not drop. Bruce and Mike: thanks from all parents and our community for this special program. U guys bless us by sharing your art.

Then came the Hot Club Pacific, rousing swing Parisian-style. Noah, of course, fit in like a glove.

Jacob Braccio-5:34
while I enjoy all of these fine bands that have come and preformed for us I am now counting down the time till the final jam session when there wont be a significantly better bass player who has rehearsed with the rest of the people so I might be able to ply for the first time in a couple of hours.

Anna Mckendry-5:43
we are listening to a band from Santa Cruz (Hometown! yay!) right now. an accordion, bass, 2 guitars and violin (courtesy of Noah). it is quite good. everybody is getting a bit antsy for food, I guess. but a lot more people have arrived and it is getting quite crowded. noah seems to be enjoying himself hangin with the band. little heads are crowded all along the couches and chairs. a definite highlight of this was walking in and finding gabe sprawled out on the couch. the question on our minds was

Chris Lopez: 5:53
man… I am loving the santa cruz hot club…. very different…. nice for this time… my eyes grow heavy and I am desperately waiting for our curtain call and dismissal jamming with that blues band was amazing cuz I was like AHHHHH finally I’m home haha. every other band has played mostly swing tunes… which are fine with me… but blues is ooo much fun to play, especially when you can talk through your music. it’s amazing the feeling of a job well done and the felling of touching everyone in the audience at the same time. well just about 2 hours left till take off. peace out readers

Michael Weissman: 6:00
two hours left…Halleluyah!!!! don’t get me wrong I’ve had a wonderful time jamming all night long on twenty minutes sleep, but as the day wears on everything begins to sound more and more like everything else…possibly because its already been played, but it still sounds good. I am really getting exhausted and this entry is getting more and more like whatever comes to my mind at this second goes into the entry ooh a birdy. I think I’ll be able to hang on for the rest of the time because my lip is almost shot as well. How high the moon…almost as high as the turnout here this year. Peace out.

Byron Greene: 6:11
wow, this Santa Cruz hot club is really good. I’m playing along with sweet Georgia brown while I’m sitting here.It sounds like something you would hear on a street corner in paris. the accordion sounds good. this is probably the longest time I’ve spent playing guitar. I’m getting really hungry. it was fun playing with the Rotery blues band. I love blues cause everything is the same, 1, 4, 5, you don’t have to memorize any chords. and you can solo!!!!!!! Noah is really good at violin.

Susan Brown 6:52 pm Tuesday
Lots of kudos all around for the amazin’ violin playa’…now Rashad (sp?) has joined in. My friend Rory Novak has been saying that Noah and he should meet…and here it is! They have similar styles. What a jumpin’ good time! My friend Diane Goyette, theatre diva/teacher from Pac Rep is here enjoying the tunes. Can’t believe everyone has been here all night! Party on Garth!

Grace McKendry
Well, it’s near the end, 7:00 to be exact.

Anna Mckendry
nearing the end… some people are glad… people are packing up and moving their stuff out before the 8 o’clock rush. it will be hectic!

Bruce Forman
I had a ball with the hot club, and my old pal and student rushad eggleston showed up to sit in for a few tunes. forgot how much I missed him. the kids are now crawling into the last bit of the marathon with a scary mambo that has tinges of klezimer—I know—you had to be here to get it. lots of food left. hoping for a courageuos roman-style finish. can’t say enough about everybody, the kids, parents, sponsors, musicians…you all will have my enduring admiration and gratitude…especially mike mckinley who makes all the central coast workshops happen.

At the end:
more than 55 people, 181 songs played
